Amanda began dancing in Fort St. John when she was 4 years old. Her extensive training includes Ballet through the Royal Accademy of Dance (R.A.D.), Tap, Jazz, Acrobatics all through the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (C.D.T.A.), Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Variety, and Musical Theatre. Amanda has achieved her teachers certification with the C.D.T.A.  She has performed in a number of Ballets and Musicals including The Nutcracker, Chicago, and Cabaret. She has studied at schools such as Kelowna Ballet, Vancouver Tap Society, Fusion Dance Company, Debbie Reynolds in L.A., Harbour Dance Centre in Vanvouver, and Jason Thomas Dance in Cornwall, England. Amanda especially loves sharing her passion for dance through teaching and choreography. She began assisting in classes at age 13 and by 15 years old was teaching and running her own dance program in a neighbouring community. After graduation, Amanda was selected to be part of the Intensive Training Program at Harbour Dance Centre, and later the Perform Arts Teacher Training Program, and has taught in a number of studios and community centres in the greater Vanvouver area and the Okanagan. Amanda is excited to be the new owner at Summerland School of Dance!

 Chelsi born and raised in Kelowna, began her dance training at the age of six at the Canadian School of Ballet, under the training of Lori Larsen (tap) and Melville Brown (ballet).  In her mid-teens, she pursued further training with new teachers at Robb Card Dance studios (jazz), Pacific Interior School of Dance,(ballet), teacher Loretta Beamish. After graduating high school she was accepted into the Performing Arts Program at the Canadian College of the Performing Arts (Victoria BC). She studied Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Musical theatre, Classical Acting, TV acting and Classical Voice.  After graduating College, she began performing professionally in Musical Theatre and TV//Film. Throughout her performing career, dance/vocal/acting continued on at Harbour Dance studio (Vancouver), Metro Movement (Toronto), Pineapple Studios (London England), Broadway Dance Centre (New York), West Lake Dance Centre (Seattle). Studying all dance styles and working with private vocal and acting coaches, in many cities to maintain her craft as a performer.

Ontario) Twist and Shout, original cast, (Drayton Ent. Ontario), Tommy The Who (Centennial Theatre, North Vancouver) Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat (Theatre Under the Stars, Vancouver), Disney Cruise lines MainStage, "Felion " Dancer for BC Lion's Football Team (Vancouver).

Film credits include: 

Hotel Babylon (BBC), Scary Movie 3 (Miramax), The Clark Brothers (Warner Bros), Shoot Out (Australian Film Festival), Featured Dancer, Presenter and actor over 30 tv commercials in Vancouver, Toronto and London.

She also hosted, at the young age of 10, "The Green Team",(CHBC Okanagan).

Chelsi was beyond thrilled this past year, to receive the Choreography Award from The Vibe Competition for "What You Want".

Chelsi is very happy to call the Okanagan home with her family, husband, Bryn Bentham, and two children Jude and Fiona. Chelsi is thankful for all her fantastic students at the Summerland School of Dance.  She is happy to share all she has learnt from performing around the world. Also hopes to one day direct and choreograph he rown show here in the Okanagan! So stay tuned!

Brittnay Sleva - Hip Hop, Modern, Jazz, Dance Team 

Born and raised in Vancouver, Brittnay has spent over 15 years training and 024Brittnay_Sleva.jpgperforming in styles such as ballet, jazz, hip hop, and contemporary/lyrical, to name a few.

 

She has performed with Ballet BC and the Alberta Ballet in two seasons of The Nutcracker, and has also represented Canada at international competitions such as New York City Dance Alliance (NY), Dance Excellence (LA) and HipHop International (LV). Through these experiences, Brittnay has had the pleasure of taking classes from Travis Wall, Mia Michaels, Christina Woodard and Scott Forsyth, among other sought after choreographers. As well as having been cast as a dancer in many music videos for artists such as Bystarlight, and Amanda Lauren, she was also hired as an extra dancer for the Disney Channel movie, ‘Girl Vs. Monster’ and ‘Step Up: All In’.

 

Through her training in Vancouver, Brittnay has completed the Royal Academy of Dance examinations up to and including her Advanced 2. She was also a member of Harbour Dance Centre’s Intensive Training Program, The Source Dance Company (2 seasons), and most recently TwoFourSeven Company that has represented Canada 3 years in a row at the World Hip Hop International Championship, having placed in the top 10 each year.

 

Brittnay is an energetic personality with a passion for movement. She enjoys inspiring others and sharing her love for dance.

Arlene has been teaching for Summerland School of Dance intermittently for over 10 years. She believes in the power of dance to help students gain confidence in themselves while mastering new skills in a positive, non judgemental and safe place amongst peers. The “aha!” moments are truly rewarding.

Tasha Waycott - Ballroom

Tasha studied Jazz dance in Summerland and went on to become a Ballroom Dancer and Instructor through studies in Alberta. Tasha has been at SSD for over a decade and will be teaching many Ballroom styles such as Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango as well as Latin Dances and Cuban Style Salsa. Tasha brings a great sense of humour to her classes and with her style of teaching helps her students stay relaxed, have a fun time, as well as learning the proper technique of ballroom dance.
